The 'iron carpet' of Persia, woven by Kurdish weavers who beat damp wefts into a fabric so dense it resists folding. A century on, this Bidjar's pile still stands strictly upright, and the saturated madder and indigo have barely conceded to light.
The medallion is drawn with village directness over a Herati under-pattern — a combination of severity and generosity particular to Bidjar.

Provenance — Kurdistan trade to London, 1970s; one owner since.
Very good. The characteristic board-like handle is intact; pile even, colours strong. Minor old moth grazing to one corner, professionally consolidated.
