Legal
Terms
The terms on which we describe, sell and deliver — kept as plain as the law allows, and never at the expense of your statutory rights.
These terms
These terms govern the use of this website and the purchase of carpets from zarif, a house operating from the United Kingdom. By submitting an acquisition request you agree to them. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights in respect of goods that are damaged, faulty or not as described, and any statutory cancellation rights that apply to a distance purchase. Questions can be sent to zarif.boutique@outlook.com.
Descriptions
Every piece is described in good faith on the basis of physical examination: origin, approximate date, materials, condition and provenance as far as it is known. Dating hand-woven carpets is a matter of judgement; where we say 'circa', we mean it. Photography is colour-managed but screens differ, and we encourage a private viewing, further photography or a written condition report before committing.
Each carpet is a one-of-one piece. Listing on this website is an invitation to begin an acquisition, not a guarantee of availability; a piece is secured only through the process described below.
The acquisition process
Acquisitions proceed in a fixed order, personally managed at every step. First, you select a carpet and submit an acquisition request. Second, we personally confirm the piece's availability. Third, once availability is confirmed, we issue a secure invoice for the Reservation Deposit.
On receipt of the Reservation Deposit — which is credited in full towards the final purchase price — we acquire the carpet specifically for you. Before delivery, we invoice and arrange the remaining balance, and once final payment has been received, we arrange fully insured delivery.
A binding contract for the purchase of the carpet is formed when we confirm availability and receive your Reservation Deposit.
Prices & payment
Prices are stated in pounds sterling. Sums shown in other currencies are indicative conversions only; all invoices are issued and settled in sterling. Prices for pieces offered on request are confirmed in writing before any commitment is made.
Payment is made against secure invoices — first the Reservation Deposit, then the remaining balance before delivery. Online checkout is not yet in operation; no payment is ever taken through this website. Delivery costs, and any import duties or local charges that apply to a destination, are stated before the Reservation Deposit is invoiced.
The Reservation Deposit
The Reservation Deposit secures a carpet on your behalf and is credited in full towards its purchase price. If zarif is unable to source the requested carpet, the Reservation Deposit is refunded in full. Once zarif has acquired the carpet specifically for you, the Reservation Deposit becomes non-refundable, reflecting the acquisition costs incurred solely on your behalf — always subject to your statutory rights.
The full policy is set out on the Reservation Deposit page, which forms part of these terms.
Delivery
We currently deliver within the United Kingdom and Europe. Every carpet travels rolled, fully insured and tracked where available, and must be signed for on arrival. Delivery times are estimates and are confirmed individually; additional delivery times and import requirements may apply depending on the destination.
We ask that you inspect the carpet on arrival and notify us promptly of any concern. The delivery & returns page, which forms part of these terms, sets out the detail.
Ownership & risk
Ownership of a carpet passes to you on receipt of payment in full. Risk passes on delivery; until then, every piece in our care or in transit is insured by us.
Cancellation, returns & refunds
Because each carpet is individually sourced specifically for its client, change-of-mind returns may not be available where the law permits this approach. Where statutory cancellation rights apply to a distance purchase, they are honoured in full, and if a carpet arrives damaged, materially different from its description, or incorrect, we will arrange an appropriate resolution promptly.
Approved refunds are processed promptly back to the original payment method. The returns and refund policies on the delivery & returns page form part of these terms.
Viewings
Private viewings are available within the United Kingdom only, by appointment, subject to availability and offered at zarif's discretion. We are glad to propose a time once a piece is under consideration.
Authenticity
Every carpet is personally sourced and carefully inspected before it is offered, and provenance or supporting documentation is provided wherever it exists. Our authenticity guarantee forms part of these terms.
Website content
Text, photography and catalogue data on this site are the property of zarif or used under licence, and may not be reproduced commercially without permission. Journal articles may be shared freely with attribution. We take reasonable care to keep the site accurate and available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, zarif is not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when a contract was formed, or for losses arising from business use of a piece.
General
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in effect. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom or in Europe, you retain any protections and forum rights granted by the law of your home country.
These terms were last updated in July 2026. If they change, the revision will be published here before it takes effect.
