Origin
Kurdistan · the 'iron carpet' of Persia
Bidjar weavers beat damp wefts down onto the warp with heavy combs, producing a fabric of unusual weight and a pile that stands strictly upright. These are carpets made for a century of use.
Designs range from the Herati lattice to bold medallions on tomato-red grounds. Antique Bidjars with saturated colour and intact pile are increasingly hard to source.
