Hand-knotted in northwest Iran, this interwar Heriz is defined by a strong central medallion, softened brick reds and an unusually balanced field. The angular drawing carries across the room the way good architecture does — legible, unhurried, certain of its proportions.
Pronounced abrash bands the terracotta ground, a record of small dye lots and the reason old Heriz carpets read as painterly rather than flat. The famously resilient local wool has decades of use left in it.

Provenance — English country house, Gloucestershire; in the same family since the 1960s.
Good, consistent with age. Pile low and even, colours saturated with pronounced abrash. Ends professionally secured; no restoration to the field.
