Qom

Central Iran · fine silk weaving since the 1930s

Qom has no ancient weaving history — its looms date from the 1930s — which freed its workshops to borrow the best of every tradition: Kashan medallions, Caucasian lattices, garden compartments, prayer niches.

Contemporary Qom silk is technically astonishing, with knot counts high enough to render miniature-painting detail. Signatures matter here; the leading ateliers are known and followed like studios.
