Nain

A small desert town between Isfahan and the central kavir, Nain turned from weaving fine wool cloth to carpets in the 1930s and kept its tailor's restraint: few colours, exact drawing, silk used only to trace the line.

Graded by the fineness of its warp count — nohla and sheshla — Nain work suits contemporary interiors unusually well, reading almost as a pale architectural drawing underfoot.
